St Mark’s Afternoon Retirement Team

Sarah CousinsSMART meets on the first Thursday  of each month between 2.00 - 4.00pm in St. Mark’s Church Hall (except for those marked*). We welcome everyone of retirement age who lives locally and enjoys meeting others. There is an interesting and varied programme, stimulating discussion and lively conversations with refreshments provided at each meeting.

SMART is run by Sarah Cousins and they are always happy to welcome new members and arrange lifts to the meetings and help. Please feel free to bring a friend to any of the meetings.

Held on 1st Thursday of the Month

2nd January

PERSON OF THE YEAR” Think hard about who inspires you. It could be a sportsperson, someone in the news or someone you have known for years. Come ready to share who you would give an award to and why.

6th February

“EYES ON AFRICA” Susannah and Keith Dyde return to bring us up to date news of the Maisha Trust, a primary school started by Susannah’s daughter in the Kibera slums in Nairobi.

5th March

"WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?” Our speaker from Redhill history society will lead an interactive session exploring family history to find who we are.

2nd April

“ALL THE WORLD’S A STAGE” Please come prepared to either join in hamming it up with a play reading or just have a good laugh with the rest of us!

14th May*

“FLOWER POWER” Please note the unusual date. Come with scissors to enjoy arranging something to take home. St Mark’s flower arrangers will be there to help. £3 cost.

4th June

“A TRIP OUT FOR TEA TO PRIORY FARM” In Nutfield where we can browse for everything from plants and cards to vegetables and gifts. Please put your name down early for transport. 

2nd July

“SHETLAND AND FRIENDS” A Shetland pony and smaller friends will come to share time together with a group from another church. A lovely tea is included with homemade cakes. We meet in the church hall. £3 cost. Please note places must be booked and paid for in advance of this meeting.

6th August

“GARDEN PARTY” To be held at the home of at the home of Chris and Harry Ingram in Redhill; we will have a tea party in their garden if the weather is kind, otherwise we will be indoors. Please telephone Sarah Cousins with your rsvp for numbers for catering and for a lift.

3rd September

“TWENTIETH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION OF SMART” Come prepared to enjoy guest faces from the past and party with lots of cake. We meet in the church hall.

1st October

“SONGS FROM THE FILMS” Bruce Cousins and Steve entertain with songs you may remember.

5th November

“DISTINGUISHED VISITOR” Our very own minister Rev’d Martin Colton will be with us to share an interesting topic.

3rd December

“CHRISTMAS IS COMING!” Christmas carols with a lovely tea. Friends and family welcome.
