Forewarned is Forearmed

In an ever-advancing technological world, we are becoming less and less aware of the dangers that lurk behind the computer screen. For a certain generation, technology is a life line for most things including social life. Sites such as Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, etc are great for keeping in touch with friends and keeping up to date with current news. However, there are also drawbacks which are devastating to those who fall victim to predators.

For this reason, we have invited Barrister Anthony Prosser to join us for CHUMS on Sunday 9 July 6.00pm -8.00pm. He has kindly agreed to take time out of his very busy schedule and share his wealth of knowledge and experience as a prosecution barrister dealing with sensitive subjects such as Drugs, Thugs, Internet Grooming & General Jurisprudence, all of which are particularly relevant to our teenagers today.

Drugs – How teenagers get recruited/ coerced into the drug supply industry.
Thugs – What organised crime looks like in the South East.
Internet Grooming – How predatory paedophiles use the net to abuse youngsters inside the home. Cautionary tales regarding posting images and the consequences!
General Jurisprudence – A quick overview of the structure of the English Legal System including Wig & Gown!!

‘Tony's work is predominantly prosecution based with an emphasis on complex casework across a broad field of crime. He is instructed in the most serious of cases, including murder, rape, drug importation, large scale frauds, firearms, kidnapping, explosives and fatal road traffic collisions. He is a heavy-weight criminal barrister, who has been a member of chambers for over 25 years’.

As this is such an important and relevant topic both to our young adults and those who have concerns about such issues, we are opening the invitation to all who would like to hear what Tony has to say.

Chums normally runs from 6.00pm with bring and share food to begin, followed by a talk and then games to conclude. Tony will aim to start at 6.30pm for approx. 1 hour, leaving 30 mins to ask Tony questions or discuss certain areas in more detail on a one to one, whilst the Chums members conclude with games.

Please let Reverend Anna know if you would like to come so that we can prepare seating etc:
